Once more into the breach….

Australia is doubling its troop commitment in Iraq. This will add 450 troops to defend Japanese engineers. Any support that we get from the Aussies in Iraq is a good thing. Prime Minister Howard just got reelected on an unabashedly pro-War on Terror campaign. Any cooperation between the two of the biggest and longest standing democracies in the Pacific, Japan and Australia, is also a good thing.

Comments:
While Australia stepping up to the plate is a good thing, it is a bit sad that this type of support could not come from those closer to home. That is to say that the democratic nations that are close to us (Hell, maybe even a result of us) have not risen to the challenge that is the War on Terrorism. Harper has obviously placed a priority on the issue (I am not insinuating that is the reasoning behind his campaign...I believe he is sincere). Why can Stephen 'the Coward' Howard not contribute? Even as a conservative, I am not so sure this guy is reasonable. Well, at least they are consistent (and becoming more and more like their French cousins everyday).

Let it be said that in my hasty publishing process, I have made an error. Specifically, I wish to replace Stephen 'the Coward' Howard with Stephen 'the Coward' Harper (admittedly while not as witty as the former, the latter is the correct version). Is it possible to edit my comment on your end?
