Aristotle nods?

Regarding the women of Sparta and their right to own property the Philosopher wrote:

“The result proves the faulty nature of their laws respecting property; for the city sank under a single defeat; the want of men was their ruin.”

Women owning property undermined Sparta? I try not to argue with Aristotle. However, maybe Sparta had other issues? The Helot slaves for one. A thirty year war with Athens would take the wind out of anyone’s sails.

One of the things I have always loved about Sparta was that the women trained along side the men. This was an equality that predates our enlightenment by a couple thousand years.
